Children in Lower and Upper Nursery commenced the Summer Term with an exciting African adventure! The children visited the Little Angel Theatre to watch a production of the popular children's novel 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne, as part of Nursery's Summer Term Core Topic which is focused around Africa.
This lively theatre production at the Little Angel Theatre tells the story of Handa, who walks to a village with a big basket of delicious fruit. Along the way seven stealthy animals have their own agenda and ideas about who should get the tasty treats. The children were very much enrolled by the production, which showed an array of puppetry; the gentle Swahili music and the wonderful rhymes transported the children to the bright, warm and rich world of the African savannah.
After their theatre visit, the children participated in several classroom activities that were linked to 'Handa's Surprise' or the wider topic of Africa - which further enriched their learning and knowledge.
Throughout the classroom, there learning and activity stations for the children to either get creative painting a picture of Handa's luscious fruit basket, discover more about African culture through play or participate in a group djembe drumming session.
Thank you to Eileen for organising the theatre trip.
