As part of Year 3's unit on China they made dumplings. Year 3 needed to prepare, mix, wrap and boil the dumplings, before they were able to eat them.
"Wrapping the dumplings was actually quite easy for me," Grace.
"Mixing the ingredients was really fun," Thomas.
"It was super hard folding the dumplings," Raphael.
Below is the recipe for 'Vegetable Won Ton' Dumplings.
Ingredients for the stuffing:
Straw mushrooms, chives & shiitake mushrooms, all chopped into tiny slivers.
Garlic and ginger - Tablespoon of each
Coriander - Cupful
Soy sauce and Shaoxing wine - Tablespoonful
Sesame oil & white pepper - Teaspoonful
Won ton skins and a cup of plain flour
One beaten egg in a cup - one cup for each pair of chefs
1. Combine all your ingredients in a large bowl until they are all well mixed. Let your mixture marinate for 20 minutes.
2. Sprinkle a thin layer of flour on a shallow baking tray, then choose your won ton style. Carefully follow the instructions to fold your won ton in your chosen style, then place it on the floured tray.
3. When all the won ton are finished, carry the tray to the kitchen and let an adult put the won ton into the pan of boiling broth.
4. Prepare the soup bowls by placing a noodle nest, some chopped choy sum and some beansprouts in each bowl. When the cooked won ton and broth are ladled into the bowl, finish the soup by sprinkling chopped spring onions on top.
