Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was an inventor, scientist, mathematician engineer and artist.

The children will be sketching, drawing, taking apart toys, seeing how the toys work, then attempting to put them back together again. They will also be making bridges out of lollipop sticks and making their own codes for others have to solve!

The children will be taking a stroll along the South Bank this term. They will be looking at various different bridges and how they are built. They will sketch the bridges, come back to school, then design their own.

This whole topic is explorative and will allow the children to work at their own pace as well as use their imaginations to devise and problem solve. They will be sketching and painting, sticking and pasting. Hopefully their vocabulary will increase, their questions will become more thoughtful and the children will become more inquisitive about the world around them.

The children have already received a book in which they get to take home and sketch.
This is what was written in their da Vinci books:

In this book I will only write neatly and with thought.
My drawings will be detailed and I will have looked closely at the objects I have drawn.
In this book I have the freedom to do as I please.
I can explore the world and find things others may not have seen.
I have the right to invent what ever I choose.
There is no right answer, there is no wrong answer.
This book is about MY passions.
It is about practice, exploration and the little things that make this world so big.
I understand that no one has all the answers. But, I may ask questions to find answers to things I don’t understand… yet.
As my teacher says: The pleasure of not knowing is finding out!
If you catch me day dreaming or gazing off into space, please leave me be, Leonardo has said I have to. J

We will see the final results at the end of this term! There may be a few geniuses on our hands!
