Spinning Toys

Toy R Us! We have been exploring the world of toys, young and old. As apart of our Toy topic we have integrated design technology. We have been making our own toys and adapting classic toys. One of our favourite toys we have reconstructed is the spinning top. We have been playing with them an awful lot and have our very own spinning champion. We have learnt that the best toys do not need to cost a lot of money. We have interviewed our Grandparents and they have shared with us what they had to play with in their childhood. When compiling a list of ‘Toys Then and Now’ we were able to see that a lot of the toys and games overlapped, this has led us to the founded conclusion that a great toy is timeless. We have had a wonderful outing to the Horniman Museum looking at toys from around the world and we are all looking forward to attending the Museum of Childhood, in Bethnal Green, to see their collection of toys.

Our spring term has begun with all sorts of glorious puppets. We have been learning rhymes and sharing our short plays with our friends in the Nursery. We have been working hard in Drama as well and been looking at the magical world of Pinocchio and we will be putting on our very own play. We have really enjoyed making our finger puppets and using our gorgeous puppet theatre. When creating our finger puppets, initially we found them complicated. However, once we followed the simple steps, we became so good at making them, we were able to make more independently and at home. Many of us got so inspired with the entire puppeteer experience that we made sock, spoon and shadow puppets, at home, as well.
