Famous People

Our Spring topic is ‘Famous People’ from the past and present. One of our first activities was to choose, from the past, a famous person to investigate. We had to select focus questions and present our work in a style that interested us and which suited the chosen person. Then we chose a famous person from the present and used the computer programme, ‘Thinking with Bubbles’ to display information about them. Our visit to the National Portrait Gallery was very informative, with an enlightening workshop on Florence Nightingale, ‘The Lady of the Lamp’ and also Samuel Pepys. These activities have developed our investigation skills and our computer skills are growing more and more each day. Our next trip, is to the Roald Dahl Museum. We have been listening to lots of Roald Dahl's fun- filled stories and are really looking forward to the trip.

We are continuing with our holistic approach to written language and mathematics. Our written language skills have been developed through letter writing and our maths skills were used to buy and sell stamps. We have read the Jolly Postman and written postcards and letters to our friends and family. Our visual language skills were used to make posters for our popcorn stall, where we used our maths knowledge again to buy and sell different types of popcorn. We all liked the Duck popcorn maker and the icing sugar popcorn was our favourite flavour. It was great fun being shopkeepers and selling the popcorn.
