The Human Body

During the Spring Term, our project is on ‘The Human Body/Food from Around the World’. This half term we have been focusing mostly on The Human Body. We have been learning about the jobs the main organs, such as the heart and the lungs do in our body and about the skeleton – did you know an adult’s skeleton has fewer bones than a child’s? We have been looking at photographs of ourselves when we were babies and exploring how much we have grown and changed. We were amazed at all the things we can do now, that we could not do when we were tiny babies! We have also been learning about the important job our senses do in helping us to learn and understand the world around us. We have been doing lots of experiments, such as the Smell Test, where we had to guess what food was inside the pot, just by using our sense of smell! It was very hard. We have discovered that it is not to so easy to identify different types of food, when one or more of our senses is missing.

“Now where does this bit go?!”

In our ‘Science Lab’, we are doing an experiment to find out what effect sugary foods have on our teeth! We have put some very dirty coins into a cup of Coca Cola and some in a cup of water – after a week, the Coke had made the coins very shiny again! We are waiting to see what happens to the shell of a hard-boiled egg immersed in coke– we think the shell might dissolve completely!
we are doing a science investigation using Coca Cola!
