Africa/Poetry

These are some of the African toys we played with at the Horniman Museum.

It has been a busy term for Year 2, but we have had a lot of fun in the process. We have increased our ability to work independently. As a class we love learning and most certainly enjoy being challenged!

Learning about different countries has allowed us to see the world as an exciting and amazing place, full of adventure and new experiences.
The continent of Africa has caught our imaginations and we love the beautiful art work that comes from it. We have looked at the countries in Africa and how some parts of Africa are very like our own, in terms of buildings, work, education and children’s games.

We have also learnt that, in some parts of Africa, children lead very different lives and live in very hot climates.

We went to the Horniman Museum to learn a bit more about Africa and we dressed up and wore masks. Some of the masks were huge and they looked amazing. We sketched the masks and our sketches were very accurate. We are now starting to make our own African masks from papier mache. We are very sure they will look as good as the masks that we saw in the museum!
