‘Where the Wild Things Are’. By Maurice Sendak

During the past term we have begun our topic ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. We have discussed what we already knew about monsters and thought a lot about real and make believe. We have done loads of fantastic activities from puppet making to story ladders. We have even performed a play to all our friends in Year 1. On our literacy wall we have sponge painted speech bubbles sharing ideas of ‘what it would be like to be a Wild Thing.’ We have also completed expressive writing answering the question ‘What would you do if the Wild Things made you their King or Queen? These have been illustrated onto beautiful crowns. Year2 have made a wonderful collage together and then we made up our very own monsters. We sketched them and then coloured them in with bright pastels. We made lots of friendly monsters and a few not so friendly…

  monstrous pictures

One of our favourite activities was making our monster out of modelling materials. We had our picture to help us and it was great fun squishing all the pieces of Plasticine. Our monster stories have been up on the walls for all to see and we are very proud of them. We had a great day out at the National Gallery and are really looking forward to making our monster out of Food! We are going to ice sponge cakes and add pieces of marshmallow, liquorice, sprinkles and all sorts of decorative treats. We have always wanted to eat a monster!!!
