As part of our theme on 'Growing' we have looked at how plants grow and what they need to help them to grow. Stories and factual books have helped us discover this, but we have also planted broad beans, to observe how roots grow down and shoots grow up. It didn't take long for this to happen and we have been recording our bean's progress in our own bean books. We have also planted runner beans which, hopefully, will grow as big as the the beanstalk from the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We wonder whether there will be a giant at the top? Perhaps a castle might appear too!! There are also tomatoes, cucumbers, chives and chervil growing up the windows of Upper Nursery! |
A flower that we have oberved closely and one in which we could see the seeds clearly, was a sunflower. Opposite is a wonderfully detailed observational drawing. We decided to stick with idea of using a flower as an image for a
screenprinting project. A parent very kindly offered to spend a day,
with Upper Nursery children, creating printed t-shirts and we decided
to use the sunflower as a starting point.
It took us several attempts and lots of practice to create stencils
for our t-shirts. It is quite tricky working out that where you cut
a hole is where the paint will go and what will create the image. |
