“We made our own flowerpot flowers.” |
| This term has begun with a study of plants.
As it is such an encompassing topic, we decided to focus on plants that
grow from seed and plants that we eat. We borrowed some books from the
library and found information on the web to investigate this topic in
more detail. What have we learnt so far? The children’s comments…….
“first, you have to plant the seed in the ground”, “then the roots start to grow out of the seed”, “some foods grow under the ground”, “carrots are the root of the plant”, “plants need water and sun to grow”, “some foods grow on vines, some on trees, some under the ground”, “some plants grow vegetables, some grow fruits”. |

“Every person and animal helped to pull the turnip! |
| After half term we will be growing some cress, lettuce
and whatever we can manage to grow in our room. We will then use these
ingredients in our cooking to make some more yummy and healthy food!
We have based some of our language work on the story of “The Gigantic Turnip”. In this story a farming couple ask their farm animals to help them pull the gigantic turnip out of the ground and they all share the turnip soup that is made from it. We made a group picture of the story and wrote in speech bubbles what we imagined each animal might be saying as they helped to pull the turnip. We have also been discussing the many different words that can be used to define size. In Maths we have sorted objects by size and arranged them by increasing and decreasing size. Our topic on “Colour”, is on going and we are going to be making kaleidoscopes, plus some kaleidoscope images with paints and dyes.
