Light and Colour

our cellophane circles

Our focus this term is on the exploration of light and colour in our immediate environment and in the world around us. We have been focusing on the primary colours and then mixing them to make secondary colours, paying attention to the varying shades within a colour range. The colour spectrum will be investigated through rainbows and we will be making some of our own using a variety of mediums such as,mirrors, prisms, crystals and bubbles. We will find out where light comes from and how we use light in many different ways in our daily life. We are also looking at how light changes with the seasons and why leaves change colour in Autumn. We have already used cellophane to demonstrate how colours mix and make new colours. We hung our cellophane circles in the window and when the sun light shines through them, we have lovely colourful patterns on our floor and if we are lucky the patterns fall on us.

Our cooking had a strong colour influence in the first few weeks, as we made rainbow cakes that were bright and tasty!, some colourful cheesy snakes and jam tarts. (We do love our food!).We have also made many colour- based patterns and colour spinners. We have many fun activities planned for the remainder of the term.
