Cooking

This term we have been developing our culinary skills. The delicious aromas wafting from Upper Nursery on a Thursday morning are our responsibility. So far, we have made honey cake for Jewish New Year, people- shaped biscuits for our project on ourselves, savoury cheese tarts, stuffed peppers and cauldron biscuits complete with worms for Hallowe’en.

Cooking and Food Preparation covers all areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum; Part of Personal, Emotional and Social Development is trying new activities. Describing and discussing their offerings forms part of Communication, Literacy and Language, as does completing individual recipe books. Weighing, measuring and spooning all help with Mathematical Development. Cooking recipes from different cultures to celebrate different festivals, teaches Knowledge and Understanding of the World. Good personal hygiene is part of Physical Development and decorating cakes and biscuits assists with Creative Development. Of course, all that chopping, cutting and stirring, help to improve fine motor skills.

So, if you are feeling peckish on a Thursday morning, come to visit us mid-morning and you never know what you might be offered.
