Middle Ages

We have concentrated mostly on monastic life, food and cookery.
We have been on three trips:

1. The Geffrye Museum to see the herb garden and find out how herbs were used for medicinal and culinary purposes.

2. Mapledurham Watermill - a medieval watermill on the Thames.

3. Southwark Cathedral where we tried illuminated writing and learnt about an average day in the life of a monk.

The project culminated in a Medieval Performance for the parents and children in Middle School. Here the children were able to share their knowledge of medieval times. Dressed in costume they sang, danced, played medieval music on recorders and acted out a day in the life of a lord and lady living in the Great Hall.

One of these photos shows the children painting pictures copied from prints of medieval kitchens, cookery and equipment. In the other photos the children are doing Bargello needlepoint.
