Shakespeare- A Midsummer Night's Dream

'Squig' creature

(This year we have a combined group of Year 3 and Year 4)

One of the aspects of the project that the children have enjoyed greatly is the faery book they have been creating since the beginning of term. Over the course of the term, the book developed into a series of faery-like creature descriptions, with illustrations that the children have thought about and created for themselves. Once the children had finished several descriptions and illustrations in their books, each child chose their favourite faery to further develop, for our new wall display. Each faery was then mounted on A4 and a beautiful border of flowers and leaves, that the children made with paper and collage, was then added.

The children have also began to design and create 3D faery faces and goblins, using papier mache. This process has several steps that begin with a blown-up balloon needing to be covered with papier-mache. This has to be done in stages, as the balloon needs to have at least four or five coats, before it can be cut into half in order to create the actual mask. Once the mask is formed, the children build up the eyes and nose and facial structure, before creating the hair, using paper or string. It is then painted to complete the face.

Towards the end of term, we will be putting on a production of Macbeth, for parents and carers. The children have worked hard to learn their lines and develop their characters and are looking forward eagerly to the performance.
