Shakespeare’s London

The Globe

Resources and Visits

We visited the Geffrye Museum to look at a re-created Tudor drawing room and take part in an object handling session. This gave pupils the opportunity to compare items used by rich and poor, and look at objects that are no longer commonly used.

A visit to the Globe Theatre and exhibition gave us an insight into London’s entertainment world. Year 4 discovered the reason the original Globe Theatre was moved to Southwark and why theatres and theatre-goers were feared by those in power.

Three Murders, a Suicide and a Near Miss

Our play this term, written by Alison Chaplin is based Shakespeare’s Othello. The play deals with the theme of jealousy and explores the reasons and possible outcomes of the emotion.

Future Visits

We have planned a visit for the the future, where we will explore the daily life of Elizabethan sailors. Included in the day will be the chance to raise the anchor and find out about the barber surgeon's trade.
