Lady Macbeth

(This year we have a combined group of Year 3 and Year 4)

Over the course of two weeks, the children listened to the story of Macbeth. We have had many interesting discussions about the different characters in the play. Lady Macbeth has been a particularly well-discussed character. The fact that Macbeth was able to be manipulated by her, interested the children greatly. Our drama teacher has started to work, with the children, towards a production of Macbeth . Each child now knows who they will play in the production and scripts have been issued. The children are very much looking forward to this performance, which will take place in the Summer term.

The fact that we live in London has made this project all the more exciting for the children. Members of the group have been excited to hear about the original sites of the theatres. ‘The Theatre,’ ‘The Curtain,’ and ‘The Globe,’ were all situated close to where our own homes stand now. Other places, such as Bishopsgate, where Shakespeare took lodging, or Norton Folgate, where Christopher Marlowe lived, are familiar to many of the children.

As the term progresses, we will further explore Shakespeare’s plays, both the comedies and the tragedies. The children have expressed an interest in Hamlet and it is wonderful they are so enthusiastic.

We have managed to procure the basement for art activities every Wednesday afternoon. We are looking forward to using the space and will be working on project- based 3D work after half term.
