Local History

Roman mill stones

We will be visiting the Museum of London, Bunhill Fields and other important local landmarks. We will also be investigating the changes that have taken place, over time, to the local area. We have looked at Roman mill stones that were excavated during building work near Dallington School.

We have looked at the way the Roman invasion changed England and London, also Boudicca and her fight to defend England from the Romans.

Map Work

Year 4 is also looking at the many ways in which we are linked to other countries. This has included holidays, food stuffs, relatives and manufactured goods.

This text was written by a Year 4 pupil, to accompany their picture of the Roman soldier with strigil.
‘This picture is about a Roman soldier. Because the Romans had no soap they used to cover their bodies with oil and they used a tool called a strigil. When they scraped the strigil across their bodies, all the dirt and dead skin came off.'
