Victorian Medicine

experiment to test the viscosity of liquids

The Old Operating Theatre
We have visited The Old Operating Theatre in London Bridge and discovered what surgery was like before anaesthetic and antiseptic! We also looked at the herb garret, in which ingredients were prepared into pills and potions.

We have looked at the lives of some of the people that changed and developed medicine and hospital care during the Victorian era. These include Mary Seacole, Florence Nightingale and Joseph Lister.

Science
We have been exploring materials and their properties during this term. The children have been learning that the three states of materials are solid, liquid and gas. We have conducted experiments that explain the differences between these three states.

Drama
Year4 performed the play The War of the Vegetables by Alison Chaplin, to parents, Middle School and Transition. The play focuses on ‘getting along together’ despite differences of opinion.
