| Sylvette – “The Girl with the Ponytail” |

|
This term, the children were lucky enough to have a special visit from Lydia “Sylvette” David. Sylvette was Picasso’s muse during the summer of 1954 while he was living in the South of France. He painted about forty pictures of her which were a combination of sketches and paintings. Sylvette modelled for him for about six months when she was seventeen years old. The series of pictures of Sylvette with her ponytail caused media sensation and influenced the “ponytail” look of stars such as Brigitte Bardot. |

Sylvette agreed to visit us and spend an hour or so talking to the children and answering any questions they may have had about her experience as Picasso’s model. She also brought a video made in 1994 that was an interesting piece about her time with him. This was an incredible experience for the children and teachers. We were fascinated by the still very beautiful Sylvette and felt privileged to have gained such an insight into the world of “The Girl with the Ponytail” and Picasso in the summer of 1954. |
