This term's project covers all areas of the curriculum but the obvious focus is history. The following is a list of the main project areas;

RATIONING
We shall be looking at rationing and the reasons it was introduced. The children will compare the different kinds of food of the 1940s and the food intake by children in 2004.

AIR RAIDS & EVACUATION
The heavy bombing on British cities resulted in many children being sent to the safety of the countryside. For many it was exciting , for others it was extremely traumatic. One of the childrens grandparents came in to tell us of her evacuation

The ‘ Dads Army’ during the war – who were they? What did they do?

1940s SONGS
We have been learning different songs from this era and are planning an end of term performance for our parents and the other children in the school.

 

RESOURCES AND VISITS

1.Chislehurst Caves. These caves were begun by the Druids and extended by the Romans and Saxons. During the second world war they were used as air raid shelters.

2. The Britain at War Experience. Children are given the opportunity to try on gas masks, tin helmets and 1940s style clothing and uniforms.

3. The 1940s House- Channel 4 video.

4. Goodnight Mr Tom- the story of an evacuee.

5.War Food- ITV 1 documentary.
