Settling in,self-portraits and'The King of Capri'

self-portrait

Using the story ‘The King of Capri’ written by Jeanette Winterson and illustrated by Jane Ray as a starting point, the children have produced an enormous amount of creative work. We wrote ‘Tempest’ poems inspired by the tempest in the story.

That night a great tempest blew in across India,
The first thing the wind did was to blow all the sacrifices out of the mosque,
The second thing the wind did was to blow the turbans off the Maharajah,
The third thing the wind did was to blow the horns off all the sacred cows,
The fourth thing the wind did was to blow all the fruit from the fruit sellers,
The fifth thing the wind did was to blow the chickens out of the restaurant,
The sixth thing the wind did was to blow all the heads off all the statues of the gods,
The seventh thing the wind did was to blow all the spears from the Maharajah's guards,
The eighth thing the the wind did was to blow all the mud off all the poor people,
The ninth thing the wind did was to blow all the fruit out of the fruit trees.

We looked at and discussed the work of Botticelli who incorporated the west wind Zephyrus and goddess of the breeze Ora into his painting of ‘The Birth of Venus.’ Drama lessons have been exciting and dynamic, we are working towards a small performance.

After half term, we shall begin our ‘Space’ project. Visits to the Science museum have been planned.
