In Lower Transition we aim to foster independent learning, develop key skills and nurture creative expression, within a supportive learning environment and through cross-curricular topic work.

The children have a variety of experiences each week with dance, gym, swimming, music and French classes, as well as the broad curriculum, that we work towards, to fulfil the academic, physical, creative and social needs of each individual child.

Old Toys and New Toys

Over this term we are studying old and new toys and how they work. During the first half of this term we have looked at the different aspects of old toys and how they differ from new toys. We looked at the types of materials they were made from. The children have studied the design of their own toys and sketched them in detail. They have discussed where their own toys have come from and the steps the toy factories may have to take to get them over to England and into our stores. The children will be going to a Toy Museum to learn about the history of toys and where they come from. Year 1 is covering the curriculum from English to Science in a fun and enjoyable way that allows the children to use their imaginations and develop their skills.
Part of our regular ongoing work is creating three dimensional shapes using various construction kits including "polydron" Through this they not only develop their understanding of three dimensional forms and spatial awareness but they also develop their social skills by working as part of a group.
