Gardens

Our class display – “In the garden”

During the Summer term, we investigate life and living things, looking at the plant and animal world. ‘In the garden…’ we explore this topic through stories, poems, music, painting, observation and investigation – we will visit the Woburn Safari Park as part of our science focus and participate in a workshop on camouflage. We went to the Barbican to hear the LSO and participate in a musical workshop called ‘All things bright and beautiful’. We have been exploring colour mixing through the work of Monet and have produced a class painting and individual paintings and work with oil pastel and observational drawings based on Monet’s garden in Giverny. We have grown and monitored Green Beans in a Bean Diary and have planted Sunflowers and Sweet Peas.

We will study Minibeasts in the second half of term and go out on field trips to local parks, to observe insect life, in our local area. In Mathematics, we focus on measurement and data handling, incorporating these areas into our scientific investigation of plant and animal life. We build on writing skills with the production of extended narrative adventures, poetry, information booklets and scientific recording. The children continue to work collaboratively and independently across the curriculum on this creative topic, increasing their confidence and competence.
