Old and New Toys

The children worked very hard on designing their dolls houses. These are just a few of those we made.

This term we have been looking at old and new toys. We have been very busy working making our own teddy bears by cutting, stitching, sticking and stuffing them! This required us to have good hand and eye coordination skills. We did very well and proved to be very good at stitching. We have also learnt a lot about old and new toys. We brought in our own toys and looked at every part, we even looked at where they came from! Some toys came from as far away as China! We learnt that our new toys are made up of plastic, wood, hinges, metal, paint, polyester, beans, cotton, magnets, batteries and stuffing. Old toys tended to be made up of wood, metal and paint or china for a doll. There were lots of similarities as well. We also found that old toys can be just as much fun as our new toys!
We have been making our own dolls' houses as well. We had to think about how to separate the rooms, the colour we wanted to paint them and what we needed to go in them. We designed them first and looked at pictures of old dolls' houses to get an idea.

We have written our very own book reviews from books on loan from the library. We used the computer to type up our reviews and made drawings, using the mouse. This was excellent for spelling, writing and art. It also helped with our hand and eye coordination. It took us all a long time but we got there in the end. The results are excellent and have ended up on display in the Library.
