Toys

drawing of favourite toy

Each child has brought into school one of their favourite toys. Each child has made an observational drawing, in order to display its shape, colour and characteristics, as you can see on the photograph. We have also written about our toy, to explain why it is one of our favourites. The children have enjoyed discussing and showing their favourite toys with the class.
We visited the October Gallery where we saw the work of the one of Africa’s most celebrated artists, El Anatsui. This exhibition showed, amongst other things his ‘cloth’ series which was a monumental wall hanging made up of thousands of discarded liquor- bottle tops sewn with copper wire.
The children took part in a workshop exploring textile making with unusual, recycled materials. The children made a wall hanging like his but smaller!

snakes and ladders game

Each member of the class is making a snakes and ladders board. This has been a good exercise in numeracy as well as graphic design. They are making ladders to climb up 6,8,10 and 12 squares and snakes that slide down 6, 8, 10, and 12 squares. In this way simple addition and subtraction is being investigated during the making process.
