Rosie's Walk

Across, over, around, under, through…….
We followed the journey of Rosie the hen, as she walked around the farmyard. We are making a class display to describe her journey. We are making books about her journey and we are also writing descriptions of journeys we regularly make to the library and to the swimming pool. The book has provided us with lots of ideas for further activities, including looking at the journeys bees make to collect their pollen and the dance they do on their return, as they describe to the other worker bees where the pollen can be found.

Directionality is an important part of understanding the world around us. It involves descriptive language as well as spatial understanding. Part of our topic is to programme a robot with simple vector instructions. We are able to tell it to go wherever we like and we are making a pathway for it to follow. As well as Rosie’s journey we have read Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book and followed Mowgli’s journey from the forest to the human village and his adventures on the way. Edward Lear’s Owl and the Pussycat has also provided us with another interesting journey to follow.
