young scientists recording the growth of their beans

As part of our topic each pupil has planted a bean and is recording its growth, in a scientific manner, in their bean diaries. Children have also dissected beans and, with the help of the magnifying glass, have made observational drawings of what they have discovered inside. After propagating the beans, within the classroom, we will be transplanting them into the garden. We are looking forward to a good crop of beans.
During this part of the project, children are learning about plant life, growth/change over time and measurement. They are developing a scientific approach to investigation and methods of recording and handling data.

making clay bowls

We have been reading stories from around the world this term, including Issunboshi's Sword, which is a traditional tale from Japan. Issunboshi is a tiny person no bigger than a finger and he sails off on an adventure in a bowl, using chopsticks for oars. We are making our own bowls out of clay but we are not sure that they will be seaworthy!
