One of the groups has been looking at water loving creatures mainly focusing on creatures that live in the sea. We made some collage pictures of the sea, drawing and painting lots of colourful fish and slimy octopus. They look great. We all had lots of funny stories to tell about our own experiences of visiting the sea. We have also been reading a Maori legend from New Zealand. This story is about a sea monster much like the Loch Ness monster that is said to be seen in Scotland. We have painted pictures of what we think the Taniwha (sea monster) looks like. He looks pretty scary but as we found out, through reading the story, the Taniwha is a kind and helpful sea monster. We have also been singing a song about the Taniwha who just wants to be friends with us.

| In
our group this term, we have enjoyed learning about water. We looked
at the sea first and had fun making our own fish, jellyfish and crabs. We
carried out some experiments with water, for example dissoving salt
in water. We also wanted to see what would happen if you froze it- it
turned to ice. In some places in the world it is cold and icy. We looked
at the creatures that live there and enjoyed making penguins. One of
our favourite stories was, 'Penguins can't fly'. The third group has read several books and stories about creatures
that live under the sea. One of the best books was ‘The Rainbow
Fish’. This is a story about how a very special fish with sparkling
scales finds it hard to share these with the other fish. He soon finds
out that he has ended up without any friends and has to learn to share.
Our yearly trip on the canal in a narrow boat, tied in nicely with our
theme on water. The boat took us along the canal from the Angel to Camden
lock and back. It was a fantastic day out and we saw many interesting
things on the way. Here are some of the things we noticed and said, |
