Fairytales,Dinosaurs and making models

While experiencing the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the children were learning about mathematical concepts, such as size, similarities and opposites. The role play area became the woods with the three bears' house with three varying sized bowls and chairs. The children had a porridge party, where they made and tasted porridge. It was great fun. We wrote invitations to characters from fairytale stories, inviting them to our porridge party.

Little Red Riding Hood – Are you scared of the wolf? We are!!!!!!

Milky White and the Beanstalk – “Milky White she got sold to the man”

One of the groups loved Jack and the Beanstalk. We drew some great pictures and even made a beanstalk that reaches right up to the ceiling.
The other group made a larger than life ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Wolf’, to go on the wall, using paints and collage materials.
In the small world area, we have had pre-historic dinosaur models, in an authentic setting, complete with soil, sand and real plants. This led to a lot of discussion using accurate dinosaur terminology. We really enjoyed learning more about these incredible creatures.
Chinese New Year fell in early February. We celebrated by making a huge stuffed Chinese dragon which snaked its way along one of the drying lines amongst the children’s paper lanterns. The children tasted a variety of Chinese foods and made red money envelopes for good luck.
