Our Favourite Stories and
“Hello, this is me”

Our Teddy Bears’ Picnic display

Whilst getting to know each other, we talked a lot about our favourite things and discovered our favourite areas to use within the classroom. While everyone had different ideas, one thing everyone agreed on was that they loved stories. It soon became clear that ‘Bears’ was a popular theme this term in Lower Nursery! We read a wide variety of bear stories. The children particularly enjoyed ‘Oops! Says Olly Bear’. They were fascinated by the bear that went bump in the night! We also spent a long time looking at ‘The Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ and ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. The children really enjoyed learning the songs and requested these stories over and over again! All the children had fun making a lovely display and spent ages choosing, cutting and sticking material for the bears’ rug. Each child made a teddy bear using a variety of materials, giving them plenty of opportunity to practise skills such as cutting and sticking. The children were re-introduced to a variety of media such as paint, tissue paper, string, wool, glue and material. This gave them a chance to combine different median to create their own very individual teddy bears! To celebrate the end of half term and to tie in with this theme, the children will be making teddy bear masks to wear at a teddy bears' picnic, to which they will all bring their favourite teddy bear.

“Your own body” is, of course, part of our project. The children learned about the names of the different parts of their body and explored different kinds of movement and what the different parts of your body can do. One of the things we have had a closer look at during our projects were our hands and feet. It is amazing to realise how many things we do with them every day. We walk, run, stand up on our feet and, with our hands, we do even more things: holding and grabbing, painting, sculpturing, pointing, stroking someone and so much more. We made some lovely foot- and handprints, too. The brushes on our hands felt a little ticklish when we put on the paint, but putting our feet in a whole tray of paint was even more exciting. It felt squidgy and a little slippery, so somebody needed to hold you, to make sure that you did not fall over. We used lots of different colours, such as blue, pink, yellow and green. Afterwards, we walked on a big piece of paper, leaving footprints on the paper, which we then cut out. They now lead up the stairs in the hallway to the Lower Nursery floor…

Leaving a trace.
