Kate Forrest
I was educated in New Zealand at Otago University, where
I received a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Consumer and Applied Sciences
in Design and a Diploma in Education. I have managed a Photography Studio, and
been a Recruitment Consultant. I came to England in 2002 and began my first
British teaching job in Windsor. It was a fantastic job but was too far away
from London. I have lived in England for almost 7 years and I have been teaching
for 8 years.
I have worked in Dallington School for 2 years and have loved every minute of
working with children who have such a passion for learning and parents so eager
to support the teacher to ensure the best for their children. The teaching staff
have worked extremely hard to make this school a warm, happy and loving environment
for the children. Their beliefs allow children to learn through investigation,
exploration and inspiration. The hidden mechanics of the school go unnoticed
by the children as they enjoy every aspect of their education.
As a teacher at Dallington School I find myself getting excited about topics
that I want to do, where I am not dictated to by the government’s strict
guidelines. This freedom allows me to explore avenues I could not have otherwise
dreamt of. As I feel more relaxed teaching within the freedoms of this school,
the boundaries of the curriculum are bent and my imagination that was once strangled
by what one ‘had’ to do, rather than what one ‘can’
do are being stripped away and my passion for teaching is returning with gusto.
This is something I want to maintain within Dallington School. It is a rare
sight to see……and is one of the reasons I wanted to be on the Board
of Governors. The other was because I believe it is important for all the teaching
staff to have a voice. They are the backbone of this school. I hope as I grow
more confident in my position on the Board of Governors I can in someway give
the teaching staff this opportunity.
